The most important lesson I learnt from my father was that I (we) should use his not so perfect life as a "base" to learn from his mistakes, to build my life around his strengths and to live without regret.
“My father didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it. Clarence Budington Kelland”
My father also taught me (us) many other lessons. God bless his departed soul.
1. Education is everything, and that if I wanted to achieve anything in life, I could with an educated mind. (He was very well learned).
2. Life is about #learning, and that seeking the truth would teach me more about myself, and the world, than anything else I could imagine.
3. Independence comes with responsibility (a lot of #responsibility).
4. I can do anything I put my #mind to ― i.e. I can manage to put my smartphone down for long enough. (Well, my wife would disagree with this 😂)
5. A good #book is the best vacation, and that play is just as important as work.
6. Laughing at your own jokes is therapeutic and healthy, too... even when no one else laughs with you, damn it! (Sometimes I unknowingly tell a joke and five seconds later join others with a hysterical laugh😂)
7. My words matter, and that I should always write and say what I mean.
8. Grammar and spelling are important ― and that #editing is, too.
9.He taught me to read #poems and to love Literature (How doth the busy bee was his favourite poem)
10. School never ends, because life schools us every day.
11. Time is life’s most valuable resource, and what I do with it is a reflection of who I am.
12. Family is fundamental, and love is our foundation.
13. Kindness is key, and that while “it’s nice to be important, it’s more important to be #nice too.
14. No one is ever too old to learn, and that we should always be willing to try anything (within reason).
15.“I love you” means more when you show it than when you say it — that #love needs to be felt, not just said.
16. To be grateful for my #blessings, and how to find faith freely.
17. Simplicity is the goal, and clutter is the devil.
18. How to balance #humility with #confidence, and that those two traits would get me far in life.
19. That no matter how badly or how often I fumble, he always (had) my back.
20. That people constantly evolve, and that the man I want to be tomorrow can always be a better version of the man I am today.
21. No matter how far apart we are, #laughter will always bring us closer.
22. When you #fail you try, try, try and try again (despite him being the most brilliant pupil in his class, he failed his class 8 exams twice..call it exam fever/anxiety disorder)
23. Pray pray, pray. #Pray in the morning, pray in the evening, pray when you are happy, pray even when you are sad. And above all, trust in #God 💯%.
